The Central Texas Pastel Society (CTPS) was formed in September 1997 by 18 Charter Members, as a small art club with a mission. There were no pastel societies for the pastel artists in Williamson County, and CTPS filled that void. The Founding Members are Nancy Manoogian and Carol Jean Goettl.
In 2017, CTPS was registered as a newly formed nonprofit doing business in TX. The 2017 Board applied for, and became a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation. As a non-profit organization we can now accept tax-deductible donations made in support of our mission. CTPS is also a member of the prestigious International Association of Pastel Societies. All CTPS members qualify to attend the international IAPS conferences.
CTPS promotes use of the pastel medium by educating the public of its enduring beauty, with the opportunity to view pastel artwork by sponsoring shows and exhibitions in the central Texas area. Workshops are made available to members, and depending on availability, to the general public. CTPS members organize painting sessions and informal critiques to assist each person to reach their optimum potential as a pastel artist.
Membership is open to anyone with an interest in soft pastels as a fine-art medium, either by actively working and studying the medium, or by being a supporter of pastel artwork. Current members include all experience levels, from professionals to students, and represent a variety of style techniques from realism to abstract.
